I’ve always struggled with finding a face wash that didn’t completely dry my face out to the point of feeling like an alligator. I tried brands that claimed to be gentle on sensitive skin with no luck. I have eczema, which makes it hard to use any products that have fragrances or harsh soaps.
Since I’ve started on my essential oil journey I’ve been finding ways to cut out a couple chemical laden household products and make substitutes all by myself! Today I’m giving you the recipes that I used to make foaming face wash and face toner with essential oils.
Foaming Face wash
- 1\4 teaspoon almond oil
- 1\4 teaspoon vitamin E oil
- 1\3 cup castile soap (I use the baby one for sensitive skin)
- 10 drops Frankincense essential oil
- 6 drops Purification essential oil
- 5 drops Lavender essential oil
- 5 drops Peppermint essential oil
- 2\3 cup distilled water
Mix all the oils together in your choice of a foaming pump container, preferably a glass one. Swirl the mixture around to ensure a complete mix. Add the distilled water to the container. Voila!!
Facial Toner
- 1\4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
- 6 drops Frankincense essential oil
- 6 drops Lavender essential oil
- 6 drops peppermint essential oil
- 3\4 cup distilled water
Mix apple cider vinegar and essential oils in a container, preferably a glass one. Swirl the container to make sure all the contents are mixed. Add the distilled water and your toner is complete. It is advised to store this mixture in the fridge.
I tried both of these products on my face after making them. I noticed after using both that my face felt very “cool”, the peppermint in the products created a refreshing cooling feeling. My skin felt very tight but not dry. Lately any type of water with products has been drying my face and I can feel the skin on my cheeks cracking. These two products did not make my face feel that way. I also noticed that it took a while for my forehead to feel greasy. Usually within about two hours after washing my face with conventional products I get greasy. These homemade products left my skin feeling matte for approximately six hours after use!

Next time I make these products I will try adding some tea tree oil to the mix! Let me know what type of homemade products you use to keep your face feeling matte!

Hi! What sort of container do you use for the foaming face wash? Is it plastic or glass? I was under the impression that we should use glass? Am excited to try out the recipe you shared above! Looks awesome 🙂 Thanks!

Hi! I used a plastic one because I went through it quickly… I would definitely recommend a glass container and keep it in the fridge! Sometimes the natural properties can start to deteriorate and breakdown faster. Kind of like homemade bread molds faster than store bought!!
Also watch your eyes! I find the peppermint is a bit much if I get it too close to my eyes!
Good luck!!

Cannot wait to try these! I was just wondering, what is the shelf life of each of these? Thank you so much!

I would not keep it more than a couple weeks, and in the fridge! Homemade items with more natural ingredients tend to “go bad” quicker!

What size bottle pumps did you use? How many ounces does each recipe make?

Should be around 8.5-9.5 ounces… I honestly don’t know the size of the pump container… It was an old soap pump from bath and body works

Thanks for posting this recipe! Since I ran out of toner I decided to make my own using my oils. I have all the ingredients already too just need to go to a health food store and get some blue glass or amber glass bottles. When my face wash runs out I’m going to make the face wash too 🙂

Are there any other oils that give a cooling effect? I cannot use peppermint due to nursing, it is used to dry up milk and I don’t want to risk that. Thanks
